The Kansas City Chiefs have scored a major victory in the NFL’s free agency market, as they recently signed former Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Drue Tranquill to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million.

The news was first reported by the NFL’s Jordan Schultz, who tweeted: “FA LB Drue Tranquill is signing a one-tear deal with the #Chiefs, sources tell @theScore.” According to Schultz, Tranquill had several suitors, but ultimately chose the Chiefs over five other teams.

Tranquill had played with the Chargers since 2019, and his most productive year was in 2022, where he recorded an impressive 144 tackles with 5.5 sacks in 17 games. Although Tranquill had garnered significant interest from other teams, the Chiefs proved to be the most appealing franchise, given their recent success and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Chargers fans were disappointed to see such a young player with so much potential leave the team, but the Chargers are currently facing a challenging cap situation and may look to the rest of the market or the draft to fill Tranquill’s role and allocate his money.

It is also worth noting that Tranquill has had a history of injuries, which may have contributed to the Chargers’ decision to let him go. Before making it to the NFL, he suffered multiple ACL tears and was considered injury-prone by many. Despite this, Tranquill overcame these obstacles and had a successful college career before joining the Chargers.

Tranquill’s move to the Chiefs marks a new chapter in his career, and Chargers fans will now have to face off against him on the field for years to come.
