The Kansas City Chiefs suffer a setback as they lose an offensive player for the Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs will head into Super Bowl LV with one fewer offensive weapon at their disposal. Wide receiver Mecole Hardman has been ruled out for the big game after being placed on injured reserve on Monday. This comes as a blow to the Chiefs’ already-short-handed receiving corps, which saw three of its members sitting out of practice last Thursday.

Hardman, who has been dealing with a pelvis injury since Week 9, made a brief return in the AFC Championship Game but was forced to leave after aggravating the injury. The Chiefs have activated running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire from injured reserve to take Hardman’s place on the roster.

Edwards-Helaire has played in 10 games for the Kansas City Chiefs this season and has been a valuable contributor to the team. The rookie running back had 302 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the regular season and also added 171 receiving yards, and three touchdown catches to his stat line. Edwards-Helaire’s last appearance came in Week 11 when he suffered a high-ankle sprain injury against the Los Angeles Chargers.

While the Chiefs will miss Hardman’s presence on the field, the activation of Edwards-Helaire gives the team a much-needed boost to its running game. The young running back’s versatility and ability to contribute in both the running and passing game will be crucial for the Chiefs in their Super Bowl matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Injuries are always a concern for teams heading into the Super Bowl, and the Chiefs are no exception. However, with a talented and resilient roster, the Chiefs will be looking to overcome these challenges and bring home their second championship in three years.
