Juwan Howard, the head basketball coach for Michigan, recently underwent a serious heart surgery, prompting an outpouring of support and well-wishes from fans and friends. While it’s uncertain how long his recovery will take, there’s hope that he’ll be back to coaching in time for the upcoming season.

On Friday, the Michigan basketball team shared the news that Howard had a successful heart procedure at the university’s Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center. According to the university’s statement, Howard’s recovery time could range from six to twelve weeks, with a possibility of returning in just four to six weeks.

Here’s what the School said in the statement: 

“Juwan Howard underwent a successful heart procedure at the U-M’s Health Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center today. Howard is expected to fully recover in 6 to 12 weeks, could return in 4 to 6 weeks.”

The news touched the hearts of Michigan fans, leading to an abundance of support, including heartfelt messages from his longtime friend and former teammate, Jalen Rose. This display of unity showcases the deep respect and admiration that Juwan Howard has earned throughout his career.

In terms of timing, if Howard’s recovery goes smoothly, he might be back in action for the team’s season opener against UNC-Asheville on November 7th. However, if his recovery takes longer, he might miss some important games against St. John’s, Memphis, Oregon, and Florida.
