Juventus hit a 15-point penalty in Series A
The once-dominant Juventus has been on a rebuild for the past few years. However, The Old Lady has been served a 15-point penalty in the league table, issued by Serie A. This leaves the Turin club closer to the relegation zone than the European spots.
FIGC has implied the sanctions that relate to the club’s capital gains investigation. This allegation has led to numerous resignations from the board in 2022.
The Consequences
It is a ban of two years for ex-presidents such as Andrea Agnelli and Maurizio Arrivabene. On the other hand, former sporting director Fabio Paratici is set to serve the ban for 2.5 years.
In 2021, Paratici left Juventus to become the managing director for Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs. Here’s where it gets interesting. Technically, the ban does not apply to football activities out of Italy. However, he could still get to serve the ban if Italian authorities make an official request to FIFA and UEFA.
Another player who is set to serve a ban is Federico Cherubini, who has been banned for 16 months. Apart from him, Pavel Nedved, Paolo Garimberti, Enrico Vellano, Assia Grazioli-Venier, Caitlin Hughes, Daniela Marilungo, and Francesco Roncaglio are set to serve eight months.
Juventus is not the only club facing such consequences; however, it is the one most involved in the wrongdoing. Apart from the Old Lady, Sampdoria, Pro Vercelli, Genoa, Parma, Pisa, Empoli, Novara, and Pescara are other clubs whose executives have been involved in the financial scandal.
Juventus were in shambles the last few seasons, however, this season they were competing for a respectable finish in the European places. Prior to the penalty, although Napoli led the table, Juventus sat 3rd in the table after 18 games.
Despite low standards for the last couple of years, Juventus still finished 4th in the league. However, a deduction of 15 points has left the club in the bottom half of the table.
