Jordan Poole was traded from the Golden State Warriors to the Washington Wizards right at the start of the NBA offseason. This was quite surprising because the Warriors had recently given Poole a contract extension worth $100 million just a year before.

But now that Poole was punched in the face by Draymond Green during a practice altercation at the beginning of the last season. Their relationship never healed, and it created a lot of tension within the team’s locker room.

NBA insider Ric Bucher reports that Poole turned down Green’s attempts to make amends afterward.

“Jordan was on a lot of players’ nerves way before that, including Klay and Steph,” Bucher said this week.

“And Draymond was finally the one who tipped the scale and went overboard. … After he did it, Draymond tried everything possible to remedy the situation, and Jordan would have none of it. I’m just looking at it as Jordan, you have an opportunity to learn and exceed Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors.”

“You can’t get over this situation with Draymond when Draymond’s gonna be gone at some point, and this is gonna be yours. You couldn’t see the big picture and made sure that the elephant was still in the room,” he continued.

The relationship between the Warriors and Poole has become very messy in recent weeks, and it’s hard to overlook. There have been stories circulating about Klay Thompson strongly disliking Poole, and head coach Steve Kerr’s comments about the trade made it clear how they felt.

It’s quite surprising, considering how the Warriors have usually maintained a low profile over the past decade, except for the Kevin Durant controversy. Perhaps sending Poole to another team is the best outcome for everyone involved.
