Ajax promote Heitinga to Ajax manager
Dutch side Ajax has finally appointed a new head coach after letting go of Alfred Schreuder last week. It is former Ajax Youth Academy prospect and Dutch International John Heitinga who has been put in charge of Ajax.
Personal Career
Heitinga, 39, came out of Ajax’s youth academy and went on to play across Europe for clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Everton, Fulham, and Hertha Berlin. Now retired, he has coached Ajax’s reserve team since the start of this season.
Heitinga has represented the Netherlands 87 times and was part of the squad that made the finals of the 2010 World Cup. However, he was sent off in extra time while the Dutch lost 1-0 to Spain.
The club has not revealed the details of the length of the contract. However, they have made it clear that Heitinga will be in the position at least until the end of the season.
He began his tenure began last week when he came in as ended the team’s seven-game winless streak. Under him, Ajax beats Excelsior Rotterdam by four goals to one. The Amsterdam club currently sits 4th in the league standing and five points behind league leaders Feyenoord.

Director Edwin van der Sar said, “We have a lot of confidence in John’s qualities and the vision he expressed.”
Schreuder who took charge after Erik ten Hag left to join Man United, was fired just six months in the manager’s role.
