Jerry West Opens Up About Kobe Bryant And His Relationship
Former Lakers coach Jerry West talks about Kobe in an episode of Paul George’s podcast “Podcast P with Paul George.”
Reveals so many facts about Kobe Bryant and How their relationship was like. Jerry said Bryant loved to hang out in his house, and both used to talk a lot about his career and stuff.
Those were the time when Kobe was a free agent and looking for a perfect team for his spot. At that time Jerry West was a manager of the Memphis Grizzlies.
In 2004 Bryant’s agency was free and he was ready to move. He gave a shot to Los Angeles Clippers but dropped the idea soon. Then he talked with Jerry West to join the Grizzlies and that’s when West refused the idea and changed Kobe’s mind to stick with the Lakers. The Lakers were the home where he actually belonged.
To Kobe Bryant, Jerry West was a father figure to whom he listened and took career advice. Jerry said that they both shared this beautiful father-and-son relationship.
“I felt more like a father figure with him. I had a wonderful relationship with him” said West.
While talking about Kobe, Jerry was completely starstruck and said it was insane to watch him doing his extreme workout and his dedication, how he prepared for himself to become the G.O.A.T. in history towards Basketball is insane.
“To watch him workout, it was like ridiculous okay! I mean it was like a man playing against kindergarten people. That’s how advanced he was. He was versatile, but he was a ferocious defender. That’s all he did, he wanted to compete. He was unbelievably skilled. His work ethic…second to none. He wasn’t afraid of anything, and it was genuine!” said West.
The 85-year-old Mr. Clutch talked about Kobe passionately and shared a lot with Poul George in his remembrance. It was beautiful to hear about the greatest player of all time Kobe Bryant who died unfortunately at just 44 in a helicopter crash with his Daughter Gigi Bryant.
