Jelena Dokic Cries over Brutal Remarks Made By a ‘Disgusting’ troll
Jelena Dokic, a former tennis player from Australia speaks about being targeted by violent troll attacks, making her mental health worse.
Dokic, who is commentating on Channel 9’s coverage of the grand slam competition, has disclosed terrible remarks written to her and claimed the harassment she has received has reached new heights.
Along with the horrifying message that was delivered to Dokic in Serbian, a laughter emoji was included. This consequently led Dokic to question: “What kind of a person can write something like this and then even worse laugh about it?”
She admitted that the brutal comment brought tears to her eyes. She has previously shared emotional posts on social media regarding her struggles with mental health.
A comment mocking Dokic for her mental health issues and her confessions of feeling suicidal was written in Serbian and included a mocking emoji.
She wrote about it in an Instagram post
‘Now that the Australian Open is starting, will Jelena Dokic try to kill herself like she does every year,’ the comment translates to in English?
‘A new low and this actually made me cry this morning when I woke up and read it,’ she wrote.
‘Just when you think online abuse and trolling can’t get any worse. Almost 1 million people commit suicide in the world every year.
‘That’s scary and so sad and then people like this disgusting person and a few others out there make fun of it!? How disgusting. They should (be) ashamed of themselves.’
‘A bad person, that’s who. And of course an ignorant one,’ Dokic posted on Instagram.
‘I am thinking of all of those who have committed suicide, those who have wanted to, those who have lost friends and loved ones to suicide, and all those struggling.
She continues to receive support
Dokic’s remarks have received a tonne of support, and the trolls have received harsh criticism from commenters, including Silvana Philippoussis, the wife of former US Open finalist Mark Philippoussis, who has backed Dokic’s posts.
‘Well done for calling this person out! I can’t believe what I’m reading- some people! Stay strong my love. You are so much more than your tennis. Your aura shines bright and some people simply can’t handle it,’ she posted.
Catriona Rowntree, the host of Nine Network’s Getaway, expressed her support as well.
‘We are with you, not always physically, but we have your back, rise above this and power on. You are meant for so much better than this mean-spirited individual. Move on and UP,’ she wrote.
