James Harden surpassed Allen Iverson’s all-time scoring record
Thursday night was a great one for James Harden, as he surpassed a Philadelphia 76ers icon in the all-time scoring record. The 76ers continued their season with a five-point win against the Western Conference.
The victory came after the team’s combined effort across the second half, and with Tobias Harris’ outstanding performance in the closing minutes, who scored three-point shots.
76ers victory and James’ accomplishment
Even after having a bitter first half, Joe Embiid regained his offensive slack in the second half. He made six blocks and scored 27 points and 19 rebounds.
Eventually, towards the end of the second half, James Harden made a remarkable shot and gained three points. As he finished the shot, he broke Sixer legend Allen Iverson on the NBA all-time scoring list. He grabbed his 24,369th point and gained a place of 26th spot on the list. Harden completed the game by leading his team in scoring 31 points and also made six shots from downtown. After the victory, the guard was asked about his feelings about his grand accomplishment. James said to the reporters, “I don’t know, man. Just being in the NBA was a far-fetched dream, but now, when you tell me things like that, it’s just like, I don’t know. I don’t know what to say.”
“Obviously, we know how important AI was to this league, obviously, to the city of Philly, but the culture, and the game of basketball itself. I’m just happy to be in the same conversation as him. I got a long way to go.”
Before Thursday night, James had already surpassed other Philadelphia stars like Hal Greer and Charles Barkley in the league’s top 50 list.
