“It Hurts and Affects You”: Hailie Deegan Opens Up About Dealing with Negativity
The recent SRX race at Eldora Speedway left quite an impression, and one racer who stood out was the rising star, Hailie Deegan. The event ended with Tony Stewart celebrating his victory by climbing the fence, but not far behind was Deegan. People were impressed by how well she raced.
Deegan’s been doing really well lately, finishing in the top five in consecutive races. This has boosted her confidence, which had taken a hit earlier in the season. After the race, she talked to reporters and admitted that negative comments from others often mess with her head and bring her down.
Talking about feeling more confident recently, Deegan said, “That’s something I’ve been lacking, I think. It happens over time, and you don’t even realize it, you let what people say to you get in your head or you have bad races and it hurts and affects you.”
She knows that having a strong mind is crucial, which is why many athletes work with coaches to stay confident. Even though she’s had her struggles, the Eldora race was a special moment for her.
In her career, Deegan has faced criticism for her driving style and how she’s done in the NASCAR Truck Series. But since she joined the SRX Series, things have been going better for her. She’s been getting better at racing, and her growth as a racer has been clear to see.
Hailee Deegan got Praise From SRX CEO
Even Donald Hawk, the CEO of SRX, had good things to say about her progress. After the Eldora race, he praised her and said, “It’s exceedingly great for me to watch Hailie succeed and progress. Having talked to her during the break when she was struggling to get the car driving right, and I want to be a cheerleader. She has a lot more potential than people realize.”
He thought her second-place finish at Eldora was a big deal, considering how tough the competition was. He felt like there were two winners that night, even though there was only one trophy.
Deegan’s Eldora performance got people talking, but she’s still aiming for her first win. After the race, she explained why she didn’t try to beat Stewart near the end. She believes in racing fairly and not being overly aggressive on the track.
