Is Toni Kroos close to retiring?
Is this season the last for Toni Kroos?
The veteran Toni Kroos has made his intentions clear of not continuing at Real Madrid after the current campaign. The 2014 World Cup winner has announced that he will likely hang up his boots despite being 33. The German’s contract at Santiago Bernabeu runs out in the summer and thus he could hang up his boots.
WHAT THEY SAID:
While talking to the reporters, Kroos revealed his plans: “Yes, I’m still thinking about what to do next season, I say in touch with the club. My experience tells me that it’s best to discuss these things in private, if something officially happens I’m sure you will find out. There are many factors involved and I have to be honest about it. It won’t take long, but right now I have not made my decision, but we’re calm because neither the club nor myself will do any silly stuff. I’m really calm about it.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE:
Despite significant depth in the midfield department, Kroos has been a rigid name in the starting eleven having featured in 28 games this season. He went on to say that he feels that he can still continue to perform at the highest level. He continued, “I’m playing a lot and I think I can still help the team. It’s quite normal to find myself on the bench sometimes or to be subbed off, given the schedule we have this season.”
WHAT NEXT?
Kroos arrived in Madrid in 2014 having played for Bayern Munich previously. He has featured in nearly 400 games for Los Blancos and has 106 international caps for Germany. Over seven years in Madrid, the midfielder won three La Liga titles, and four Champions League crowns followed by five FIFA Club World Cups.
