Investigating Jim Irsay’s politics: Is the Colts’ owner a Republican?
Jim Irsay, along with Jerry Jones, maybe the NFL’s most vocal owner. The loudest may get the most attention, but they also elicit the most inquiries. Fans may be wondering if the owner, like many of the country’s wealthy elite, is a Republican. Here’s a breakdown of his political beliefs.
People might hide their political allegiances behind a pretense of neutrality or ignore the subject entirely, but their spending habits scream louder about their ideas. However, based on his donation history, as reported by The Big Lead, Irsay is a bit of a flip-flopper.
He gave $5,000 to the Republican State Central Committee in 2008. In 2010, he gave $12,500 to the Republican State Central Committee of Indiana and $5,000 to the Democratic Congressional Victory Committee of Indiana. He gave $10,000 to the Indiana Democratic Congressional Victory Committee in 2012.
He seemed to want to be able to state that anyone he supports benefited from his cash.
He has also given regular, sizable contributions to the National Football League PAC for $10,000 every election cycle (2008, 2010, 2012, and so on). According to ESPN, the National Football League PAC gives to both Republicans and Democrats.
Simply put, it appears that Irsay has no vested interest in which party wins elections as long as he has a hand in their victory.
