Gerard Moreno says Barcelona have completed Inigo Martinez signing

As reported by Gerard Moreno, FC Barcelona has completed the signing of Inigo Martinez, who will arrive as a free agent in the summer. Although the move has not been made official, w hen it comes to news related to Barcelona, Gerard Moreno is a reliable source considering his close relations with Barcelona President Joan Laporta.

The Spanish journalist broke out the new saying that the Athletic Bilbao Center back has agreed on terms to join Barcelona and completed his medical a few days ago. The Spaniard’s contract is set to expire come this summer and will be expected to join the squad in June.

What will Inigo Martinez offer?

Joining a Barcelona side which is currently considered to have the best defensive record in Europe, Martinez will have to fight for his place. The Catalan club does have defensive options such as Kounde, Araujo and Christensen as World class options.

However, with Gerard Pique retired and Eric Garcia not being good enough, Inigo Martinez will offer quality in depth. The Spaniard will prove to be crucial for the Blaugrana considering the huge amount of games and fear of injuries.

Special Clause

As of now, Barcelona are not sure whether Inigo can be registered or not due to FFP regulations. The club still has to reduce over €200 million in wages before the summer.

Keeping this in mind, a special clause has been placed in Martinez’s contract which enables him to be sent out on loan to a different club until the Blaugrana can register him.

His salary will remain the same, though.
