Sania Mirza, one of India’s most celebrated tennis players, bid farewell to her illustrious career with a first-round loss in the Dubai Tennis Championship. Sania teamed up with American player Madison Keys but lost to the Russian duo of Vernokia Kudermetova and Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets, 4-6, 0-6. Despite the loss, Sania leaves behind a remarkable legacy, having won six Grand Slam titles, including three women’s doubles with Swiss legend Martina Hingis.

Sania’s retirement plans were pushed by a few months due to an injury, but she officially hangs up her boots as one of India’s top sporting stars. She will serve as a mentor for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming Women’s Premier League, which begins next month.
