Incident Erupts Between Fans During India vs Afghanistan Match at Cricket World Cup
India secured a convincing eight-wicket victory over Afghanistan in a group stage match at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday. The exact cause of this altercation remains unclear. In the video, several individuals are seen involved in a heated argument, with a few resorting to physical confrontation. Notably, no law enforcement officers were present at the scene. One user who shared the video on X humorously captioned it, saying, “Fans are getting an authentic Delhi experience.”
Afghanistan, batting first, managed to put up a respectable score of 272-8 on a pitch that didn’t favor the bowlers. Hashmatullah Shahidi played a stellar innings, scoring 80 runs off 88 balls, with support from Azmatullah Omarzai, who contributed 62 runs from 69 balls. Among the Indian bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah stood out, claiming four wickets while conceding 39 runs in his 10 overs.
In response, India swiftly reached the target in just 35 overs, with Captain Rohit Sharma delivering a record-breaking performance by achieving the fastest century for India in a World Cup. Sharma reached his century in just 63 balls, surpassing Kapil Dev’s previous record of 72 balls. Additionally, Sharma now holds the record for the most centuries in Cricket World Cups, an impressive feat in only his third World Cup appearance. He has now scored seven centuries in 19 World Cup innings. The match concluded with Virat Kohli remaining unbeaten at 55 runs, alongside Shreyas Iyer, as India secured victory with eight wickets in hand.
