“I’m going to finish a piece of chocolate,” Tom Kim said after winning the 2023 Shriners Children’s Open
Tom Kim of South Korea successfully defended his title at the 2023 Shriners Children’s Open with a score of under 20. To win the title, he finished one stroke ahead of Adam Hadwin. It was his third PGA Tour triumph.
Kim discussed his intentions for post-tournament celebrations during a post-tournament press conference. He claimed he was going to eat his favorite chocolate. According to Kim (through NUCLR Golf):
“I’m going to finish a piece of chocolate I wanted to finish, then order room service and go to bed, then wake up at 3:00 a.m. and take my 6:30 a.m. flight.” “I can’t wait to get through that chocolate.”
Tom Kim began his round on Thursday, October 12, and finished with a 68 after five birdies and two bogeys. On Friday, he shot a 68 once more. In the second round, Kim had six birdies, one bogey, and one double bogey.
In the third round, he opened with two consecutive birdies on the first two holes, then added two more on the front nine, one eagle, and five more birdies on the back nine to finish with a score of 62, the lowest of the four rounds he played.
He recorded seven birdies and two bogeys in the tournament’s final round. Kim defeated Adam Hadwin by a single stroke.

Tom Kim last won on the PGA Tour in 2022 at the Shriners Children’s Open, and he successfully defended his title in 2023. Tiger Woods, the South Korean golfer, is the youngest player to win three PGA Tour tournaments. He has seven top-25 finishes this year, including a second-place result at The Open Championship.
In a media interview, the 21-year-old golfer discussed his triumph. He stated (through CBS):
“It had been a long day.” I was playing extremely well and felt really secure about myself. I knew if I did it myself, I’d be able to achieve it. It’s been a long season, almost a year later, and we’re back. I feel really blessed to be able to defend. Glory to God for directing me, and I have learned so much this year, which has been both a gift and humbling. I’m really excited to obtain this one for our squad.”
Kim became a pro in 2018 and joined the Philippine Golf Tour. So far, he has won 11 professional events, three on the PGA Tour and two on the Asian Tour. He won two PGA Tour tournaments in 2022, including one last week.
