Iga Swiatek back in pre-season training after finishing 2023 season with WTA Finals title and World No. 1 ranking

After finishing 2023 with six titles and the World No. 1 rating, Iga Swiatek has returned to pre-season training.

Swiatek won the Qatar Open, the Stuttgart Open, the Poland Open, and the China Open in 2023, in addition to successfully defending her French Open title. Her season-ending championship came in the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico.

The Pole performed admirably at the year-end competition, where she was vying not just for her first title but also for the World No. 1 position. She defeated Marketa Vondrousova, defending US Open winner Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur, and Aryna Sabalenka on her way to the final match, which she won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.

With a 68-11 win-loss record, the 22-year-old finished the year atop the WTA Rankings. She was also the WTA Finals’ youngest winner since Petra Kvitova (21) in 2011.

Iga Swiatek then took some time off before returning to tennis training. On November 21, she captioned an Instagram photo of herself in court:

“Does anyone miss tennis?”

Iga Swiatek reflects on her experience: “What a season that was; I saw, did and learned so much.”

Iga Swiatek came to Instagram after the 2023 WTA Finals to reminisce on her excellent season. She expressed gratitude to her team and everyone who helped her through her ups and downs.

“Wow, what a season… I saw, did, and learned a lot. “Before I begin my much-needed vacation, I’d like to leave some words of appreciation, gratitude, and thoughts here,” she wrote.

“I’d want to express my gratitude to my staff. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you. “I’d like to thank everyone who stands by me every day through the ups and downs of each season,” she continued.
The four-time Grand Slam champion then thanked her WTA Tour teammates for pushing her to be a better version of herself via rigorous competition.

“Last but not least… I want to thank the incredible women I compete against on tour. Because of you, I am continually striving to improve as a player. Every one of us has a unique story to tell, and we can share those experiences via athletics. I appreciate you and this chance. The most wonderful things happen to us when… we stop chasing them,” Iga Swiatek concluded her post.
