“I think he can win four or five more,” McEnroe about Djokovic
“I think he can win four or five more:” McEnroe about Djokovic
Former tennis player and US Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe believes Novak Djokovic could win another “four or five” grand slams before retiring.
After winning his 22nd title at the Australian Open on Sunday, the Serbian equaled Rafael Nadal’s record for most men’s grand slams and looked virtually unstoppable for the majority of the tournament.
What did McEnroe say about Djokovic?
“I think he can win four or five more,” McEnroe told CNN. “It looks like he’s as healthy as ever.“
“He’s the favorite at three out of four [grand slams] for the next, I’d say probably two years.“
McEnroe says “all is now right again in the men’s tennis world” after Djokovic reacquired the world No. 1 ranking for the 374th time.
His 10th Australian Open victory on Sunday made him only the second man in history to win more than ten titles in a single major.
While fans have grown accustomed to seeing Djokovic lift trophies, the Serbian’s emotional reaction to winning in Melbourne has sparked much discussion.
Djokovic had to undergo a difficult year
The 35-year-old was seen weeping inconsolably as he and his loved ones cheering on the court, he later told reporters that she had an “emotional breakdown.”
Djokovic’s achievement follows a difficult year in which he was unable to defend his title because of his deportation from Australia in 2022 as a result of his Covid-19 immunization status.
Then, after being the focus of a significant international news story, he was turned away from the US Open because of his immunization record.
Not just McEnroe but many others believe that Djokovic will continue to succeed.
The Serb defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets on Sunday, leading Australian star Nick Kyrgios to predict on Twitter that he “will get to 28 slams easy.“
Djokovic will strengthen his case as the greatest male tennis player in history if he wins further grand slam titles to add to his existing total.
