How much will Messi earn at Barcelona?
Barcelona prepare contract for Messi’s return
With reports of Messi returning to Barcelona this summer, the Blaugrana have prepared to offer the Argentine a one-year contract with an option for another.
The club is set to offer the World Cup winner with a salary of just €6-7m net per season. Such a figure is way too low for Messi’s standards. Moreover, accepting such a figure will put Messi below some of the Barcelona players.
The four Barcelona players will make more than Messi are – Frenkie de Jong (£18m), Sergio Busquets (17.7m), Robert Lewandowski (€10m) and Jordi Alba (E10m). Makes you wonder, that arguably being the best in the world, Messi won’t even be the top earner at the club.
How does Barcelona compensate Messi?
It is the FFP which forces the Catalans to offer such low figures to the club legend. However, to make up for the low salary, Barcelona will be offering Messi the entire revenue from his farewell match, including the ticket sales, merchandise, and sponsors.
Messi’s contract at PSG runs out in the summer, which makes things easier for Messi to come back to Spain.
