Kyrie Irving suggests a solution for the WNBA Chartered flight issue

Kyrie Irving, who plays Guard for the Brooklyn Nets has pledged to help WNBA prosper and grow in the future. Irving is one great supporter of the WNBA and promises to help the league solve the chartered flight issue.

In a post-match conference after the loss to the 76ers, Irving talked about W’s being unable to provide its players with chartered flights. He added: “we gotta get something done…”

“I’m with them no matter how much it costs per se, I think we could all collectively come together and make something very doable happen.”

Breanna Stewart joins the cause

This has been a big problem and has been numerous talks to solve it. However, there has been no concrete solution.

Recently, Breanna Stewart took to social media to provide a solution for the problem that’s worth $20 million.

Stewart’s effort was met with support from the WNBA community. She expressed her desire to join hands in the deal that helps reduce the costs of travel for the whole of the WNBA. She even promised to put her earnings from the NIL in order to further help the cause.

Former greats and current WNBA players including the likes of Chicago Sky star Kahleah Copper, Sue Bird, and Washington Mystics star Elena Delle Donne all agreed to chip in. Irving whose earning’s from the NBA will rise to $231.7 million by the end of the campaign is also a part of the team now.

It is no secret that WNBA is not as financially capable as the Men’s league. The maximum Salary for a player in WNBA is $228K. In contrast, NBA players can make up to $270 million, which is far too much when compared to women.

If the WNBA were to allow teams to book chartered flights, it would require a change to their current collective bargaining agreement. However, there’s no doubt that WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert would support such a change.
