During this time, teams have the opportunity to sign unrestricted free agents, and also have the option to use the franchise or transition tag on a player to retain.
Here we present you the list of the top 5 free agent players to look forward to, this NFL’s Off Season!
Lamar Jackson
Not to a surprise, it has been a tradition to see the former great MVP quarterbacks who have had great potential as well as accomplishments in the tournament’s history but have been laid off before to re-hit the field. Hence, he is not unexpected but a definite top hit, to keep an eye, on this season and he is none other than Lamar Jackson. His journey started with being in Ravens’ quarterback in his rookie season and became the youngest NFL quarterback to start a playoff game at age 21. He also set the season record for quarterback rushing yards and led the league in touchdown passes while bringing the Ravens to the top seed of the American Football Conference. Rising high, he became the second unanimous Most Valuable Player and the fourth African-American quarterback to win the award. He is anticipated to break the piggy bank capitals of the franchise this offseason and change the fortunes of an NFL tournament in the process. Whoever bets on him will have to keep aside the aching facts of him having missed a combined 10 games the last two seasons. But it is also to be applauded that whoever team Jackson enters in, sees an immediate raise in the offensive profile. Let us wait for the fate of time to reveal what happens next.
Saquon Barkley
As New York is seeking for the best players it can grab, he is just the absolute face of the franchise. The player turned 26 this year. Tracing his journey, he entered the NFL in 2018. He played college football at Penn State, and after setting records at offense. In 2017, Barkley finished fourth in Heisman Trophy, third in Maxwell Award voting, and received multiple national and Big Ten Conference awards and recognition. He has the legacy of setting all-time Penn State records for most all-purpose career yards (5,538), most career rushing touchdowns (43), most career receiving yards by a running back (1,157), most rushing yards by a freshman and sophomore, and most total yards in a single game. Barkley was selected second overall by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft, setting several NFL and team records to make the 2018 Pro Bowl, and was awarded as the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He faced injuries in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. While the Giants limited his touches, the biggest takeaway from this year is that Barkley played a full season. He finished with over 1,300 yards rushing, and his 57 receptions were the second-highest total of his career.
Josh Jacobs
He played college football at Alabama and was drafted by the Raiders in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Jacobs was the NFL rushing yards leader with 340 attempts, 1653 yards & 12 TDs. Las Vegas did not exercise Josh Jacobs‘s fifth-year option, something that looks like one of the most negatively shocking decisions made by the Raiders this year. Jacobs led the NFL in rushing, including a 229-yard effort against Seattle in Week 12. Jacobs also finished the current season with a career-high in receiving yards (400), proving that he is worthy. Since the league is valuing and considering the players more rationally than what it did before, that is just seeing the recent performances, he must have a definite chance to come back!
Tony Pollard
Tony Randall Pollard is an American football running back for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Memphis and was drafted by the Cowboys in the fourth round of 2019. He is turning 26 this offseason but has just 510 carries so far in his career, making him an attractive option for a team looking for a lead back. Pollard had 13 carries for 141 yards and three rushing touchdowns in the 49?29 win and was named Ground Player of the Week. In Week 10 of the 2022 season, Pollard had 80 rushing yards, six catches for 109 yards, and two touchdowns in a 40-3 win over the Vikings, earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week. During the 2022-23 NFC divisional playoff game, he suffered a high ankle sprain and fractured fibula in the second quarter when 49ers defensive back Jimmie Ward landed on his ankle while making the tackle. Pollard was carted to the X-ray room with an air cast on his leg. Pollard underwent surgery. Let us see what his future has!
Geno Smith
Geno Smith, born in Florida, has an experience of over 10 years of now. He started playing college football at West Virginia, leading the Mountaineers to multiple bowl games, broke numerous passing records, and earned multiple awards before getting drafted by the New York Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. After two seasons of ups and downs, Smith eventually lost his starting position due to several injuries and then spent the later time as a backup for the New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, and Seattle Seahawks before unexpectedly making a career resurgence as the Seahawks’ starting quarterback in 2022, and earning his first Pro Bowl selection, having his first winning record and a playoff berth as a starter, and leading the league in completion percentage. He was just one of the NFL’s best achievers this year, making the fans of Seattle forget about Russell Wilson in the process. It would be a delight to see who grabs him!
