Haaland Looking To Compete For The Ballon d’Or In 2023

The electrifying striker from Norway has been scoring goals for fun ever since he arrived on the European scene. He has maintained a solid goal-to-game ratio of a goal every 90 minutes since arriving at RB Salzburg. He later went on to prove his dominance at Borussia Dortmund and is now en route to breaking numerous records in the Premier League.

As of 2023, the Norwegian is eyeing to put himself in the Ballon d’Or picture. He has scored 27 goals in just 24 games this season. With half a season still remaining, the Norwegian can touch even higher numbers. Many predict him to compete with PSG’s Kylian Mbappe as they both compete and dominate the next decade of football.

What Did Haaland Say?

Ballon d’Or contingency requires a player to not only produce world-class performances but also maintain the standards week to week.

While talking to GQ Magazine about his opinion on the prestigious award, Haaland said, “I think everybody cares. But I don’t think it’s a good thing to think about this. If you and your team are playing really well, you will perform well, you will begin to win trophies, [and] you will probably be on the list. Like [Kevin] De Bruyne was – he was third place, I think well deserved, by the way. But yeah, you cannot think of these kinds of things.”

Inspiration

Haaland added that he is not in a hurry to win the award as he has time on his side. The striker mentioned the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and how he achieved prominence in the latter stages of his career.

He added: “Look at Benzema, he is 35 now and I think even better. So in 12 years I hope to be even better than I am now.”

What is on Haaland’s mind?

As of now, Haaland has his mind focused on achieving collective success with Manchester City. He has his mind on the prestigious Champions League trophy, a trophy that Pep Guardiola is yet to win with the club.
