Glen Johnson backed the Liverpool star despite his slow start- “He has got a lot of potential”
Glen Johnson, the former Liverpool defender backed Cody Gakpo when he suffered a slow start in his new chapter with the Reds.
The Reds got Gakpo’s signature on Christmas with a starting fee of £37 million and remarkable add-ons, leaving behind their rivals Manchester United in the process. Before this shift, the forward, Cody Gakpo played in 24 matches for PSV Eindhoven this season and scored 13 goals and 17 assists.
Despite his impressive performance, the 23-year-old had a slow start at Anfield. He failed to score any goal in his first few appearances in the new club. However, after the team’s 2-0 Premier League home victory over their rivals Everton, he was able to get off the mark.
Glen Johnson shared his views on Gakpo’s performances
While speaking to Lord Ping, Glen shared his views on Gakpo’s performances during his initial six weeks with Liverpool:
“I think he has had a slightly slow start, but you have got to give him a bit of time and grace. I certainly think he has got the capability and the abilities to be a top player. The first few games it probably looked like the Premier League was a bit too fast for him.
“It was just a matter of time till he got used and adapted to it, but I think he has got a lot of potential to be a big player for the next few years.”
Seems like Glen Johnson had Cody Gakpo’s back who came forward as his savior.
