Memphis Depay has recently moved to Atletico Madrid and has provided the Catalan club with some breathing room in terms of salary space. The Blaugrana are keen to use this to register Gavi into the first team.

The 2022 Golden Boy has been one of the key parts of Xavi’s midfield tactics. However, the youngster was still registered as a reserve team player. If all goes through, the La Masia product will inherit the No.6 jersey previously worn by the likes of Dani Alves and current manager Xavi.

What’s The Case For Gavi?

Earlier this season, Pablo Gavi was given a new contract following a stellar debut season in the first team. However, it was believed that the youngster would have to wait until next season to be officially registered with the senior team. However, it has been reported that the Catalan club is working towards registering Gavi in the coming week. All things are set but the club is waiting for a green light from La Liga.

Depay’s transfer has left Barca with very little room in their salary budget. A new signing to replace the Dutchman is unlikely. Thus, the club is focusing on renewals as of now.

Gavi has been a revelation at the club. Despite being just 18 years old, it seems like he’s been playing at the club for years. There are numerous other players who are yet to be registered with the first team. However, Gavi seems to be the No.1 priority. Other players include the likes of defender Ronald Araujo, who is still on a contract with Barcelona B.

The Blaugrana are also looking to renew the contract of Alejandro Balde. The exciting left-back prospect has been putting out impressive displays on the pitch. Therefore, the club is excited to tie him on a long-term deal as he looks to be the ideal replacement for Jordi Alba.
