“Gakpo made a mistake joining Liverpool,” says Koeman
Did Gakpo make a mistake by joining Liverpool?
Koeman is in no way questioning Gakpo’s quality. However, he believes that joining a Liverpool side that is struggling in mid-table, at the age of 23 was a wrong choice. The Dutch forward is yet to find the back of the net in six games for the Reds.
WHAT THEY SAID:
Talking to Youtuber Andy van der Meyde, Koeman said, “He has ended up in a team that is not doing well. If you don’t score or you’re not important and you don’t win any matches, it’s very difficult, especially for a young player. If that was someone aged 28, with experience, it would be different.”
“The level in England is higher than in the Netherlands. But they are also young boys, aren’t they? Like [Ryan] Gravenberch going to Bayern [Munich] and not playing. Then that is difficult.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE:
Liverpool currently sits 10th in the Premier League standings after a humiliating 3-0 loss to Wolves. The Merseyside club will be competing in the Champions League this season. Although, in the league, their chances of finishing in the top four are almost over.
