Former Patriots DB Sergio Brown was detained; he is accused of first-degree murder

Following his latest detention while attempting to re-enter the country from Mexico, it appears that things will become much worse going forward for the former member of the New England Patriots. The former NFL player is expected to be charged with first-degree murder and concealing a dead body in relation to the death of his mother, according to TMZ.

Sergio Brown, who was relocated to Illinois, will appear before a court on Wednesday to answer the two accusations. If found guilty, his sentence may be life in jail without the possibility of release.

Following his apprehension while attempting to re-enter the country, his mother’s family issued the following statement:

“We are also heartened by the news that Sergio Brown has been apprehended and returned to the United States unharmed,” the statement continues. “Our family is prayerful that, as the investigation progresses, more answers will become available, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.”

What offenses is Sergio Brown accused of?

Myrtle Brown, the mother of Sergio Brown, is said to have died from a beating; an autopsy on her showed several injuries that were consistent with being assaulted. After her corpse was covered with a sheet and buried behind her house, authorities started looking for Sergio Brown a month ago.

Following the police’s probe, the former NFL safety vanished, and there have been rumors that he travelled to Mexico. Brown was apprehended during his attempt to re-enter the country via San Diego, and more recently, he was sent to Illinois.

Before becoming a pro, the former NFL athlete was a star at Notre Dame. After the 2010 NFL Draft, Brown was an undrafted free agent and spent his first two years as a player with the New England Patriots.

After that, he played briefly for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, and Atlanta Falcons before failing to have much of an effect on the league.

After the 2016 season, he was released by the organization without receiving a contract. In seven years and 94 games, he had 144 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, one interception, and 10 passes defended.
