Former NFL Player Buster Skrine Arrested for Fraud Charges at Toronto Airport
Former NFL cornerback Buster Skrine, who used to play for the Browns and Jets among other teams, has been arrested on some serious fraud charges. This surprising arrest happened at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, and it’s a big twist in Skrine’s life after football.
Skrine, who is now 34 years old, is being accused of running a tricky scheme to cheat banks out of more than $100,000. Here’s how it apparently worked: he used fake checks to open bank accounts and then grabbed the money before anyone realized the checks were no good.
The charges against him are quite serious. They include four counts of fraud over $5,000 and seven counts of making false statements to make money, along with other charges. The police think that Skrine might have been up to this fraud business for about nine months.
The police are worried that Skrine might have done similar things in other parts of Canada too. The Durham Regional Police Service released a statement that hints this might not be an isolated incident.
Durham Police said, “There is reason to believe the same male has been committing similar [offenses] across Canada.”
Buster Skrine was arrested in Canada for allegedly defrauding multiple banks for $100K+.

Let’s talk about Skrine’s career. He used to be a cornerback in the NFL, known for his time with the Browns and Jets. He even had a big contract with the Jets – $25 million over four years. Later on, he joined the Chicago Bears with a $16.6 million deal for three years.
During his time in the NFL, Skrine made quite an impact. He racked up 590 tackles, broke up 88 passes, and nabbed 10 interceptions. He played for different teams, including the Titans and the 49ers in 2021.
Considering the gravity of the charges, it’s doubtful that Skrine will be back on the football field anytime soon. As the legal process moves forward, his football legacy is uncertain, which is a stark contrast to his once successful career.
