USWNT star Megan Rapinoe is always making headlines either because of her game or because of her controversial protest.

Prior to Sunday’s match between USWNT and South Africa, Megan Rapinoe said ‘No’ to the national anthem at Soldier Field. USWNT star Rapinoe addressed it as peaceful protests to not sing along to the National Anthem.

This isn’t the first time Rapinoe protested by not singing the national anthem her protests continued since 2016.

According to Yahoo Sports News, “For Rapinoe, the anthem is a “somber moment” for a “peaceful protest” of inequality and injustice throughout the United States.”

Megan believes that, in this way, she is protesting gender inequality and injustice peacefully.

Via report, Rapinoe’s protest is inspired by former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

“It’s inequality and injustice she has been aware of for years now, even as she proudly sang the anthem prior to the summer of 2016. But that summer, she had what she calls an “awakening.” She was “very much inspired” by Colin Kaepernick and his protest of racial injustice and police brutality.”

Rapinoe’s final game decision on the national anthem made some fans upset.

One fan wrote on Rapinoe’s retirement, “Activist, not footballer. Happy retirement.”

One angry USA fan wrote, “Bye bye, now please recruit players who love the USA.”

Another fan blamed for the World Cup loss, “She cost us the World Cup.”

One fan commented on Megan’s contribution and said, “Whether you love her or not, Rapinoe’s impact on the USWNT is undeniable.”

Another upset fan said, “1 of the most controversial player in women’s soccer history.”

One fan added, “Still a legend though. Be well rap.”

Sunday’s soccer match was the last and final international game for Megan Rapinoe. Rapinoe helped give the U.S. a 2-0 lead with a perfect corner kick that led to a goal.

Rapinoe announced her retirement before the 2023 Women’s World Cup. In her final moments on the field, she thanked all the fans who supported her all these years, and gave her so much love.
