Fans react to Ajla Tomljanovic getting a cat shaped trophy after winning MundoTenis Open
After Ajla Tomljanovic won the 2023 MundoTenis Open, she was given a trophy in the shape of a cat, which sparked reactions from tennis fans.
After overcoming Martina Capurro Taborda of Argentina on Sunday, November 26, Tomljanovic won the WTA 125 MundoTenis Open in Florianopolis, Brazil, in an hour and forty-eight minutes, 6-1, 7-5. Her sixth triumphant event following her full recovery from a crippling knee injury that sidelined her for the whole of the 2023 season was this one.
Being the Australian’s highest-ranking singles championship to date, the MundoTenis Open trophy means a great deal to her. It’s also her first singles championship at any level since she won the ITF Challenger competition ten years prior.
Ajla Tomljanovic was given an unusual blue trophy in the shape of a cat, standing straight and holding a racquet when she defeated Taborda in Brazil.
The sight of this unusual award delighted tennis lovers. They voiced their opinions on it on social media. After a 10-year drought, a fan said the cat-shaped trophy was precisely what they would have wanted.
“Not gonna lie. This is exactly the trophy I’d want after a 10-year drought. ? ,” a fan posted on X (formerly Twitter).

About her relationship with Chris Evert, Ajla Tomljanovic said, “We’ve created this bond that is so nice.”
Ajla Tomljanovic has already talked about her strong relationship with former World No. 1 Chris Evert, with whom she shares a unique kinship.
Evert is recognized by many as one of the best players in women’s tennis. In addition to her stellar record of eighteen Grand Slam singles victories, she also holds the record for the most trophies won by a female player in the French Open with seven.
The Australian talked about how important of a mentor Evert had been in her life, admitting that although the world knows the great player as “Chris Evert,” to her, she is just “Chrissie.”
When Ajla Tomljanovic thought back to her adolescent years, she remembered talking to Evert about males and even going to yoga classes together.
The 30-year-old also discussed her unique adult friendship with Evert, calling it a priceless treasure, adding that the World No. 1’s ability to mentor her during her tennis career was only a bonus.
“Everyone knows Chris Evert. She’s such a legend, but to me, she’s just Chrissie. She was the person who, when I was 14, she was taking me to yoga on weekends. When I was 16 and 17, I was talking to her about boys. Now that I’m an adult, we’ve created this bond that is so nice. The fact that she can help with my tennis is almost a huge bonus for me,” Ajla Tomljanovic told Tennis Channel.
