Mac Jones enjoyed a successful rookie year with the New England Patriots in the 2021 NFL season. But the previous year, he regressed significantly in several statistical areas, taking a step back. To try to get Jones back on track, the club brought in Bill O’Brien to take over as offensive coordinator.

After losing to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany in Week 10, the Patriots’ season has just started with a 2-8 record, so things haven’t quite gone as planned. In addition to his NFL-high nine interceptions, Mac Jones had a significant role in this, as he has done all season.

Bill O’Brien is dissatisfied with Jones’s incapacity to make the appropriate choices and carry out the plays that are being called. He was seen furiously shouting at his quarterback following yet another fruitless offensive drive as the Patriots fell to the Colts.

It seems that Jones’s efforts this season are frustrating more people than just O’Brien. After the quarterback’s outburst, several supporters criticized him on X (previously Twitter) and stood behind the offensive coordinator.

Here are some of the most popular remarks:

Prior to what was perhaps Mac Jones’ worst play of the game, Bill O’Brien went on a tirade. With the Patriots down the Colts late in the fourth quarter, Jones led the offense into the red zone. Then, with Mike Gesicicki wide open in the end zone, he had a chance to score a touchdown and give the team the lead.

Not only did Jones miss the ball, but he underthrew it so badly that it was intercepted on one of the Colts’ game-winning plays. This validated O’Brien’s annoyance, and head coach Bill Belichick also ran out of patience with Jones.

Mac Jones—was he benched?

The New England Patriots had one more offensive drive to try to beat the Indianapolis Colts after Mac Jones’ terrible interception. It appeared as though Bill Belichick had had enough of Jones’ mistakes, so Bailey Zappe started the game at quarterback.

Whether this was a temporary or permanent transition is still being determined, but Zappe’s assumption of the starting role didn’t assist his cause. He threw a terrible interception into triple coverage that ended the game.

Though it’s reasonable to say the Patriots currently have serious quarterback concerns, it will be intriguing to watch what they do with the position in Week 11.
