Fans Are Praying After Bill Parcells’ Loss of Maple Leaf Mel
Former NFL head coach Bill Parcells’ family lost one of their favorite horse named Maple Leaf Mel during the race. This weekend, Fans are devastated over the sad news of the Parcells family loss and prayers have been pouring since then.
Legendary NFL head coach who served the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys lost one of their thoroughbred horse right before finishing the race. Hall of Fame Parcells have been doing horse races for some years. Parcells owns some of the thoroughbred horses.
Tragically, one of his horses Maple Leaf Mel had to be put down after a race.
It was a heartbreaking scene for the viewers and mostly for Bill Parcells and his family.

Later Parcells talked about what happened, calling it “a gut punch.” In an interview with Peter King, Bill said,
“Maple Leaf Mel was euthanized at the track. Parcells and his family — his three daughters and grandchildren were at Saratoga with him — watched the end of his greatest horse’s life two strides from her greatest triumph. It hurt.”
During this difficult time, fans shared their feelings and condolences on Twitter.
One fan said, “Absolutely heartbroken for all the connections of Maple Leaf Mel – Coach Bill Parcells and trainer Melanie Giddings. Seeing your horse go from literally one step away from a life-changing victory to falling and having to be euthanized. So sad.”
Another wrote, “Bill Parcells is one class act giving Maple Leaf Mel over to Michelle Giddings who the filly was named after and who helped develop her. I’m sick to my stomach what happened to the horse & connections? Nothing to do with drugs or the track. A freak accident. My heart goes out to them.”
One wrote, “I feel so sorry for Bill Parcells and Melanie Giddings on their horse Maple Leaf Mel. Just sad……..”
One fan even suggested, “This is why this sport needs banned.”
Maple’s loss was such a tragic moment for the horse race community.
