Exploring the Concept of Realmbreaker in MTG

The Realmbreaker is a massive, corrupted tree grown by Elesh Norn, one of the Phyrexian Praetors, in the center of New Phyrexia. It was cultivated using a stolen bit of tyrite from the World Tree of Kaldheim, which has the ability to forcibly connect planes. Realmbreaker’s purpose is to Compleat every plane within its reach.

The Seedcore, located deep in the innermost layer of New Phyrexia, was the chamber where Elesh Norn grew Realmbreaker. It is a twisted botanical garden that was once Memnarch’s Darksteel Panopticon as well as Karn’s old throne room and prison.

New Phyrexia

By the time the Gatewatch and other planeswalkers infiltrated New Phyrexia, Realmbreaker was almost fully grown. It is too massive to be observed all at once and has been corrupted to look like Elesh Norn, with white, porcelain bark and streaks of red flesh, where oil hangs in twisted facsimiles of budding leaves. Its branches also hang massive invasion ships to invade connecting planes.

The air around Realmbreaker appears electrified and has a taste described as “aether.” The Phyresis process, turning an unfortunate observer into a Phyrexian over time, begins upon being in the presence of Realmbreaker.
