EX-USWNT Coach Jill Ellis Suggests Tony Gustavsson As New U.S. Manager
Ex-USWNT head coach Jill Ellis suggested Australia’s Manager Tony Gustavsson As a New U.S. Soccer team manager after Vlatko Andonovski.
Earlier this week, USWNT coach Vlatko Andonovski reportedly stepped down from his position as a U.S. head coach. Fans and media are expecting a formal official statement from Vlatko this Thursday.
The decision was made after the USWNT failed to proceed after round 16 in the World Cup 2023. After the dreadful World Cup exit of the U.S. Women’s Soccer team, many fans were calling to hire a new coach.
Former USWNT coach Jill Ellis has someone in her mind, who can be the new head coach of the U.S. team after Andonovski. Via ESPN report, Jill Ellis said, Australian manager Tony Gustavsson should be among the leading candidates for the USWNT job.
Jill Ellis told the reporter Gustavsson worked under Ellis as an assistant in the USWNT program during her two World Cup victories. 50-year-old, Tony is doing great at his first international coaching in Australia and he is doing a fine job.
On Wednesday, the Australian team advanced to the semifinals at this year’s event in their home country, falling to England. All credit goes to former Swedish Football player and current head coach Gustavsson, who is doing well with the talented rosters.
Australia won most of their games at this year’s World Cup without their best player Sam Kerr. Kerr only appeared in the knockout round, first as a substitute before starting in the semifinal against England and scoring the team’s only goal.
