Ex-tennis coach sentenced to imprisonment for sexually assaulting a student
During a hearing on February 15, 2023, in Olmsted County District Court, a former tennis instructor at the Rochester Athletic Club who sexually assaulted a 15-year-old female student he was instructing in 2018 was given a 19-day prison sentence.
Bradley John Dorsher, 40, of Brandon, Minnesota, entered a guilty plea to an amended count of gross misdemeanor fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct in August 2022 as part of a plea agreement that also saw a felony count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct dismissed and a felony count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct reduced.
A stay of imposition was granted in the case as per the plea agreement, according to District Judge Lisa Hayne.
She also ordered Dorsher to register as a predatory offender, enroll in a program for sexual offenders, and abstain from unsupervised contact with children. Dorsher will also complete two years of closely monitored probation.
The gross misdemeanor charge against Dorsher will be lowered to a misdemeanor if he successfully completes his probation; nevertheless, the court retains the right to sentence him to jail if he violates his probation.
An ex-girlfriend of Dorsher wrote a statement to the judge detailing how she was allegedly abused by him in 2018.
Numerous parents of young people Dorsher has coached over the years have written letters of support for him that were submitted to the court. They expressed shock at his allegations, denied that he had sexually assaulted their kids, and expressed concern about what these allegations might mean for his reputation.
Dorsher was compelled to admit the truth of the case regarding his sex attack on the minor in 2018 as a condition of the plea agreement.
In Alexandria, Minnesota, Dorsher is the owner of Lakes Area Tennis at the moment. According to their website, Dorsher accepts bookings for private sessions.
The criminal complaint claims:
In June 2020, after her daughter told her about the inappropriate behavior, the juvenile’s mother first reported the sexual assaults to Rochester Police Department.
Dorsher started grooming the minor in 2017 and made multiple sexually suggestive remarks to her for nearly a year while he was her tennis instructor.
The sexual attacks started in the spring of 2018 and persisted all summer long.
A Rochester police investigator was informed by the club’s head of human resources that they had received a report alleging verbal abuse towards the minor in August 2020. Dorsher acknowledged making a few of the remarks.
The same investigator was told by Dorsher that he quit as a result of the complaint.
