After a lackluster first half of the season, Everton lies in the relegation zone. Amid frustration amongst the fans, Everton owners and the board of directors have decided to relieve Lampard of his duties.

Monday afternoon, the Merseyside club confirmed the reports that Everton was ready to cut ties with the manager.

Everton is currently positioned 19th on the points table with just 15 points from 20 matches. Their recent form has been terrible, as they managed to collect just one point from the last seven matches. Unfortunately for Lampard, the loss against West Ham proved to be the final nail in the coffin.

Official Statement from Everton FC

The official statement released on the club’s website said:

Everton Football Club can confirm that Frank Lampard has left his post as Senior Men’s First Team Manager today.

Joe Edwards, Paul Clement, Ashley Cole, and Chris Jones have also left the club.

Alan Kelly will remain as goalkeeping coach.

Everyone at Everton would like to thank Frank and his coaching staff for their service during what has been a challenging 12 months.

Frank and his team’s commitment and dedication have been exemplary throughout their time at the club, but recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken. We wish Frank and all his backroom staff well for their futures in the game.

The club has started the process of securing a new manager and will provide updates on the appointment in due course.

Paul Tait and Leighton Baines will receive training until a new manager is appointed.

Who is to blame?

It is not a surprise that his inexperience cost Lampard his job. After failing to capitalize on his earlier endeavor at Chelsea, the English manager has now left Everton in shambles.

Last season, Everton barely survived relegation, but the situation remained the same this season. Without the club backing him in the summer transfer window, Frank Lampard had nothing to offer on the pitch.

The fans had already started to protest on the streets. While most of them protested in favor of Lampard’s sacking, some of them were even against owner Farhad Moshiri and Chairman Bill Kenwright.

Whoever comes in next has to somehow get Everton back to scoring goals regularly and keep the reasonably solid defensive unit intact, while also uniting the fanbase as they have yet another relegation scrap coming up.
