ESPN Jay Bilas On Carolina WR Tez Walker’s Waiver Cancellation Request
ESPN sports analyst Jay Bilas called out the NCAA for canceling the request of Carolina WR Tez Walker’s waiver request.
Tez Walker who transferred to UNC from Kent State, has not been granted eligibility largely because the NCAA ruled that his time at Kent State means that he is transferring twice in two years after initially leaving North Carolina Central.
To this ESPN sports analyst and former basketball player, Bilas criticized the NCAA for his decision on Tex Walker’s waiver situation.
On Friday, in a video, Bilas said, “The NCAA’s decision in the Tez Walker case is senseless, it’s wrong and frankly shameful,”
My thoughts on the situation surrounding @UNCFootball WR Tez Walker. This decision by the NCAA is just shameful. pic.twitter.com/mgh3L2Traj

Bilas said, “Tez Walker should be eligible right away, and I wouldn’t blame him and his lawyers if they stepped into federal court tomorrow and filed suit against the NCAA, that’s how wrong this decision is.”
Bilas also mentioned that there are so many athletes who transferred from 2-3 schools throughout their careers and are still eligible to play. The NCAA is being unfair to Walker and denied his request for a waiver.
According to the NCAA rules, an athlete transferring for a second time needed a “demonstrated physical injury or illness or mental health condition” to qualify for a waiver and gain immediate eligibility.
As Walker’s excuse was the health of a family member as one of his reasons for seeking a transfer to a school closer to home.
Rules are made for discipline but if one rule ruined someone’s life, in Walter’s case his career. The NCAA must bend it if they can’t break the rule.
