Enzo Fernandes about Chelsea and Todd Boehly

The new Chelsea signing Enzo Fernandez has thanked Todd Boehly and the club for “doing everything they could” to bring him to London.

The 22-year-old cost Chelsea £107m to make him the most expensive player in British football. He overcame Jack Grealish who signed for Man City for £100m from Aston Villa back in 2021. The Argentinian has put pen to paper on an 8.5-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

What did Enzo have to say about the club?

The deal was completed late on the deadline day and praised the club for its efforts. During an interview with the club website, Fernandez said, “I am grateful to Chelsea and its ownership for doing everything they could to make me a part of this project”. The midfielder has made his ambition clear by saying that he is here to win the “biggest trophies” with the Blues.

He went on to say, “I’m happy and excited to join the Pride of London, to play in the best league in the world, and to compete for the biggest trophies. I can’t wait to play in front of our fans and help my teammates on and off the pitch”.

Graham Potter’s side, however, will need to show signs of improvement considering they currently sit 10th in the Premier League and out of both Carabao and the FA Cup.

This leaves the Champions League as the only trophy to win for Enzo. In Europe, it’s Borussia Dortmund who will challenge Chelsea for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Enzo came from River Plate and earned a name for himself at Benfica. However, it was at the World Cup in Qatar that the Argentinian made a name for himself, winning the Young Player Award for his heroics.

Club executive’s opinion of Enzo

Chelsea’s co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali said “In Enzo we are signing a World Cup-winner and one of the brightest talents in global football.”

“We are excited to add him to Graham’s squad and we are sure he will form an important part of our team going forward. Enzo has demonstrated his ability at the very highest levels so we’re looking forward to seeing what he will do in Chelsea blue!”

At Stamford Bridge, Enzo will be handed the No.5 shirt earlier worn by Jorginho who left for Arsenal. Fans are excited to see him in action against Fulham.

Argentina Captain Leo Messi spoke about Enzo saying, “I see him [Fernandez] in training every day… he’s a spectacular player”
