Emiliano Martinez expects big offers in the summer
Big move around the corner for World Cup-winning keeper
Aston Villa is expecting offers from various big clubs for their World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. However, Villa is feeling no pressure to let go of the Argentine shot-stopper.
Words from Emiliano Martinez
Earlier, Martinez himself expressed his desire to play for a big club as he said: ‘I have the feeling that today I have the level to play in the Champions League and try to win it.
‘I would like to win a title with Aston Villa. You should never lose hope. I would like to [win the Champions League] with Aston Villa, but it will be difficult because the club is still in its growth phase.’
How likely will Martinez leave?
Martinez had agreed to a five-and-a-half-year deal with Villa in January 2022. The 30-year-old is one of Villa’s top earners. Villa, considering their billionaire owners, Nassef Sawiris, and Wes Edens hold the cards to resist lucrative offers.
At the end of the day, the decision on Martinez’s future will be made by manager Unai Emery who holds immense power in the team’s functioning. If the Spanish coach has a keeper in mind whom he can bring in to replace the Argentinian, he wouldn’t mind letting him go.
Martinez was awarded the World Cup Golden Glove for being the most clinical goalkeeper at the tournament. The notorious keeper was splendid against France in the World Cup final especially saving a last-minute chance from Kolo Muani. He was excellent at saving penalty kicks and his antics helped him play mind games with the opposition.
Earlier in December, his entourage spoke to Italian media and said: ‘He’s a great goalkeeper, the best in the world. Not many clubs could afford a goalkeeper like him. Serie A clubs? Well, why not. Clearly, he’s aiming high, at the Champions League.’
