Draymond Green shares his preferred timeline to retire from the NBA. There is still some time left for his retirement, as he wants it to be in his 40s. He is looking for a long-term contract with the Warriors or any other team.

The 32-year-old Green wanted the Warriors to give him an extension of almost 4 years, but the team paid no heed to the time. He has flourished in his 11-year career with the Warriors and was an inherent part of the team. He has already planned his ideal retirement from the NBA. He averaged 7.9 points, 6.7 assists, and 7 rebounds this season.

It seems like Green is looking for stability before his retirement. He will be available as a player option in the next season; he could part ways with the team.

He spoke on his future in the NBA in ESPN’s Know Mercy with Stephen A.Smith podcast:

“I’m 32 years old, if I’m being honest, I don’t want to play basketball until I’m 40. I really only want to play basketball for another four years after this. I’ve always said my magic number is 15 (years), once I get to 15, that’s it. I’m cool, go on and enjoy my life, leave it to the young guys to take it from there.”

Most of the players get confused about their careers in their 30s, a crucial time to reflect on their future. But Green has planned things out for himself. A four-year contract means he would be  37 by the end of the contract.

“I feel like over the last year or so – not even with the Jordan Poole (incident) – it’s become more and more evident to me that 15 is the right number. Reason being, I talk so much s–t to so many guys on the basketball court that I can’t be one of the guys lagging around in my career.”

“And so I don’t want to be one of those guys that’s just still around. And I know for sure I’ve got four great years left in my body. I know that for certain, I know how I feel. I’ve got four great years left, and for me, I’ve always been very good at if I set this goal, I’m going to do everything that I have to do that I know I can do to get to that goal. So for me, setting that end date is beautiful because I’m like OK, I’ve got four more summers of working like this, and once I get to 15 that’s it.”

If Green retires, he has a magnificent career to reminisce on. And if he chooses to play for another four years, he has a healthy future ahead and a lot to add to his achievements.
