Dodgers’ Star Pitcher Expected to Miss Rest of Season Due to Serious Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers have received some unfortunate news regarding their star pitcher, Dustin May. After undergoing Tommy John surgery last year, May now requires another surgery on his arm, and it’s highly likely that he won’t be able to play for the remainder of the 2023 season.

May has been out of action since May (yes, it’s a bit confusing!) because of an injury initially diagnosed as a flexor-pronator strain. However, the Dodgers have recently revealed that he needs an operation on July 18 to fix the flexor tendon in his right elbow.

Before getting injured, May was having an amazing season on the field. He had a 4-1 record, with an ERA (earned run average) of 2.64 and a WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) of 0.94 in nine games he started.

May made his Major League Baseball debut in 2019 and has shown great potential when he’s been healthy. Overall, he has a record of 12 wins and 9 losses, with an ERA of 3.10 in 46 appearances (34 times as a starter). He has also struck out 174 batters in 191.2 innings pitched.

Unfortunately, injuries have been a recurring problem for the 25-year-old pitcher, who was selected in the third round of the draft. The Dodgers’ pitching staff has been hit hard by injuries this season, with Clayton Kershaw dealing with a shoulder issue and Noah Syndergaard facing blister problems.

Furthermore, another talented pitcher, Walker Buehler, hasn’t played at all this season because he underwent Tommy John surgery last summer. It’s definitely a tough situation for the Dodgers, as they have several key pitchers out of commission due to injuries.
