Dillon Brooks has 3 NBA Teams to Choose From Following his Free Agency Decision
Dillon Brooks, a Canadian professional basketball player and also one of the best NBA stars is now one of the NBA’s more polarizing players. In the last season, Brooks had a rough time and he performed very poorly and in the end, decided to become a free agent.
During the recent season, Brooks had an average of 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. He continued to show his strong defensive skills throughout the year, but he didn’t receive an NBA All-Defensive First Team recognition. Instead, he was placed on the Second Team. Moreover, Brooks also shot a career-worst 39.6 percent from the field along the way.
In the playoffs’ first round against the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooks scored an average of 10.5 points per game and had a shooting percentage of 23.8% from three-point range. Because of his performance, the Memphis Grizzlies decided to let go of Brooks and instead got Marcus Smart, who is considered better in many aspects of the game.
Despite having a bad performance in the last season, free agency promises to be quite lucrative for him over the next few months. There are many teams who are interested in signing him to be a part of their squad.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Rockets are a serious potential suitor to watch when it comes to Brooks.
He wrote, “The Rockets’ interest in Brooks, meanwhile, appears to be even more clear-cut, with one league source insisting Monday that Houston should be labeled as the favorite to sign the talkative swingman whose playoff struggles and the team tension they spawned swiftly prompted the Memphis Grizzlies to move on from him.”
The Rockets had a really bad defense last year, so now they are interested in Brooks to strengthen their defences. He could be a budget version of Marcus Smart for the Rockets’ coach, Ime Udoka, who knows how to bring out the best in Smart from their time together with the Boston Celtics.
According to reports, Brooks is looking for a bigger contract than just the $12.4 million mid-level exception offered this offseason. Some sources suggest that he wants a lot more money.
The Mavericks also seem like a good fit. Both Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have openly talked about the team’s defensive struggles towards the end of the season. Brooks could help improve their defense to some extent.
However, there are reasons to doubt whether this partnership will work out. Milwaukee is another option for everyone involved. Brooks has a unique personality, but so does Grayson Allen. The Bucks managed to change Allen’s negative image and turn him into a beloved role player who goes viral with his wife on the beach. They could potentially do the same image transformation with Brooks.
