The real meaning behind the prologue dialogue choice in Diablo 4
Before we start, this article contains major spoilers, so if you want to start the game fresh on its full release, turn back.
If you are playing Diablo 4, then just before you entered Kyovashad, which is the first major town you’ll discover in the beta, and The Fractured Peaks’ capital city, you had to decide between several dialogue choices. In these choices, you were asked to choose one of your sins to be forgiven. These sins were fear, anger, pride, and greed. Only after you made a choice you were permitted to enter the city by the guards at the gate.
You might have thought that the choice was meaningless, but it’s not. According to Senior quest designer Harrison Pink, there is a deep meaning behind the prologue dialogue choice. Pink claims that the capital city has its traditions and customs, and this choice will help players to understand them.
“Right away you get a strong sense of how important their religion is to them, and by extension, you see how powerful the Cathedral of Light is,” Pink says. “Everything in Kyovashad revolves around it.”
This choice also shows that you can’t just do anything you want in the game. This is a serious game and you can’t just steamroll over the AI in the game just to try your new legendary gear. You “are not omnipotent” in the game and you will have to deal with it.
“There are other people, cultures, and groups in the story that have their desires, and you don’t get to just blow them off because you’re the main character,” says Pink.
The last reason for the prologue dialogue choice in Diablo 4 is to show Lorath’s character in the game. When you were at this point, you had seen how guards yield to Kyovashad’s stubbornness and permit him entry without doing the ritual. That alone shows his importance in the game and how other respects him.
So these are all the reasons why you were asked to choose at the start of the story in Diablo 4. If you want to know more about the game continue reading our articles. If you are interested in reading more articles on E-Sports, check out our website.
