Denver Broncos Player Faces Suspension for Gambling Before 2023 Season
The NFL has taken action once again for a gambling-related incident. This time, Denver Broncos’ defensive lineman, Eyioma Uwazurike, has been suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games during the last season. As a result, he won’t be able to play the entire 2023 season and is ineligible for reinstatement until July 24, 2024.
The NFL confirmed today that Eyioma Uwazurike of the Denver Broncos has been suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games in the 2022 season. Uwazurike will be eligible to petition for reinstatement no earlier than July 24, 2024.

Uwazurike was drafted by Denver in the fourth round after an impressive college career at Iowa, where he had nine sacks in his senior year. As a rookie last season, he played in eight games, making 17 tackles and two quarterback hits. He was also part of the special teams unit.
Unfortunately, Uwazurike is not the only player facing suspension due to gambling violations this offseason. Wide receivers Isaiah Rodgers and Quintez Cephus are among seven players who have also been suspended indefinitely.
Additionally, Jameson Williams, Stanley Berryhill, and Nicholas Petit-Frere received six-game suspensions each. However, Calvin Ridley, who was the first player to be punished in the league’s sports-betting crackdown, has been reinstated after missing the entire 2022 season.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton expressed his concerns about the NFL’s gambling policy, calling it “confusing.” He believes that the policy’s implementation, understanding, and education need improvement, much like a teacher addressing low grades in the classroom.
The NFL continues to address gambling-related issues to uphold the game’s integrity and ensure fair play for all players.
