Dell Curry opens up on recent marriage following end of 33-year-old union with Sonya Curry
Dell Curry’s personal life normally garners little notice. He usually makes news when he talks about his two kids, NBA stars Stephen Curry and Seth Curry, who play for the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks, respectively.
Earlier this week, however, Dell Curry revealed something about his personal life in an interview with the Charlotte Observer.
Curry, who spent 16 years in the league (1986-2002), 10 of them with Charlotte, said that he had remarried after his divorce from ex-wife Sonya Curry.
Before marrying, the former NBA star and his wife, Nicki Smith, were in a relationship for several months. They were spotted together at the 2022 NBA Finals between the Warriors and the Boston Celtics at Chase Center.
“I’d met her a few times. We spoke on the phone for a month before I met her. ‘Oh, I like this gal, guy,’ I think. ‘What exactly is going on here?’ I was never going to marry again. But life is wonderful right now. “It couldn’t get any better than this,” Dell Curry told the Observer.
There are no other specifics on Curry’s marriage to Nicki Smith, but it appears that both Dell Curry and his ex-wife have moved on after their divorce a few years ago.

Dell and Sonya Curry divorced after 33 years of marriage in November 2021. The ex-couple met and married in Charlotte, where Curry lived for ten years (1988-1998).
They met in the early 1980s at Virginia Tech University when Dell was a basketball player and Sonya was a volleyball player.
According to reports, their marriage had many problems, and the two decided to divorce in March 2020.
Dell Curry and Sonya filed for divorce in the summer of 2021, citing marital misbehaviour’ as the primary cause. They were both accusing one other of adultery during their marriage at the same time.
They issued a joint statement in which they confirmed the dissolution of their marriage. Dell and Sonya revealed to People:
“After a year of contemplating a trial separation and much deliberation, we have decided to end our marriage.” Despite the fact that this comes with a tremendous lot of pain, our goal and wish is for our family’s happiness to continue. We are grateful for all of our blessings and triumphs!”
When asked about his parents’ divorce, Stephen Curry stated that it was their decision, which he supports.
“It’s difficult, but it’s also about understanding who they are as individuals.” “I’m learning about them and what makes them happy right now,” Curry told the NewsObserver.
Aside from Dell Curry’s marriage to Nicki Smith, Sonya appears to have moved on in her personal life. She is supposedly dating Steven Johnson, who attended the same college as Dell and Sonya back in the 1980s.
