Danny White To Extend His Stay At The University Of Tennessee
Danny White is the Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics at the University of Tennessee. The University has now announced that not only will White get a raise but also a new six-year contract for a job well done. This deal will see Danny White make $2.2 million annually to further guide the athletics department.
White was appointed by Tennessee two years ago after leaving the role at UCF. Along with him, he brought Josh Heupal with whom he has transformed the football program to achieve new heights of success. On Tuesday, Heupal was awarded a new contract as well, a deal that will make him $9 million per year.
What Did Chancellor Plowman Have To Say?
Chancellor Plowman said, “Danny White’s strong and innovative leadership of our athletics department has created a championship culture and excellence across all sports in record time. He’s built the best team of athletics administrators in the country, a team committed to our student-athletes’ well-being and to winning with integrity. He has set audacious goals for Athletics and is exceeding every milestone. I appreciate his leadership, his vision, and his commitment to making the University of Tennessee the very best.”
In the annual rankings, Tennessee football finished as the sixth best in the country. Meanwhile, their basketball and baseball teams stand at No. 4 and No. 2 in America’s preseason poll.
How Did White React To The New Opportunity?
White expressed his gratitude and said “I am so fortunate to be in the right place, at the right time,” White said. “We have exceptional leadership—starting with Chancellor Donde Plowman—and incredible support from President Randy Boyd and Board of Trustees Chair John Compton. We have the best roster of coaches in college athletics, talented student-athletes, and a dynamic administrative team to support the enterprise.
“Most importantly, the passion of Vol Nation gives us a unique opportunity to build the very best athletic department in America. We’re just getting started on Rocky Top. I can’t wait to see what’s next!”
With the new deal, White is now the highest-paid Athletic Director in the whole Southeastern Conference.
Ever since Philip Fulmer stepped down in 2017, it was clear that a lack of quality leadership will cost Tennessee in the long term. Danny Plowman knew that a brand-new ideology was needed for Tennessee to succeed. Thus, he brought in White, who was known to be the best AD across all programs. Since then, Tennessee has been better than ever.
