Daniil Medvedev about his intended future path following his retirement from tennis
After retiring from professional tennis, former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev has stated that he would like to pursue a career in racing.
Right now, the Russian is taking part in the 2023 ATP Finals. On November 14, he stunned fellow countryman Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-2 in a group-round match at the year-end competition in Turin, Italy.
After winning, Medvedev was questioned at a news conference about his plans for the future after he retired from tennis. He stated that in order to determine what best fits him, he would like to try his hand at a variety of different activities, including coaching and commentary.
“I’m not sure. I want to pursue something I like, so after my career, I will have to try a lot of other things to discover what I like. I could give commentary a go. I have no idea if I’ll enjoy it or not. I’ll say, “Okay, I don’t do it,” if I’m not going to like it, likewise with coaching. Though I’m not sure whether I could be a decent coach, I’d want to give it a shot,” he said.
But the former US Open champion was certain that he would follow his ‘dream’ of becoming an amateur race car driver.
However, one thing I will definitely strive to accomplish is become an amateur race driver—however, that will depend on how my life unfolds. That’s what I want. I can’t go anywhere professionally, for sure. However, there are others, such as Ferrari Challenge or similar events, where participants pay to race all year round on the world’s top circuits; Daniil Medvedev stated he would want to participate in them as well with some buddies.
Daniil Medvedev is a prominent lover of motorsports. In his own time, he likes to go karting with his buddies. In June, he even went to the Barcelona Grand Prix. So when the Russian hangs up his racket, it would make perfect sense for him to do anything in this industry.
