Dallas Cowboys Re-Sign Running Back to Boost Running Game Ahead Of NFL Draft
Looks like the Dallas Cowboys are getting serious about their running back game as NFL Draft coming nearer! On Tuesday, they re-signed running back Rico Dowdle to their roster. According to his agency Sports Trust Advisors, Dowdle is back in action and ready to help the Cowboys out.
Dowdle was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina in 2020 and has played a little bit with the Cowboys since then. He’s been the third-string running back behind Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard when he’s been healthy, but with Elliott now out of the picture, it looks like Dowdle might get his chance to shine if he can stay healthy.
Now, Dowdle hasn’t exactly set the world on fire with his stats – he’s appeared in 20 NFL games, rushing for a grand total of 24 yards and scoring just one touchdown. But hey, who knows what he’s capable of with a bigger role on the team?
Some folks were wondering if the Cowboys were going to pick up a younger running back in the upcoming NFL draft, but with Dowdle back in the mix, it looks like they’re willing to evaluate their options internally. Plus, they’ve still got Tony Pollard, who was tagged with the franchise designation, so he’s definitely sticking around.
Last season, the two-back system with Elliott and Pollard worked pretty well for Dallas. But maybe adding a third option like Dowdle will give the team even more options on the field. Who knows – maybe they’ll come up with a new, killer three-back system that will leave their opponents in the dust!
