Dabo Swinney responds to Jordan Travis calling Clemson defense ‘disrespectful’

Following Florida State’s overtime victory over Clemson, Seminoles quarterback Jordan Travis stated that the Tigers were disrespectful for playing man coverage against Florida State’s top wideouts. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, on the other hand, was not convinced.
Swinney refuted that Clemson was rude in its coverage of Florida State’s wide receivers after the game, adding that he only wanted to win.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for that kid,” Dabo Swinney remarked. “He’s a great, amazing player.” We are attempting to win the game. This guy can run, and we felt like it offered us the best chance to put some pressure on him and not just let him sit there and keep the ball and pick us apart with some zone stuff. But no, all we care about is winning the game.”
Jordan Travis, in particular, believed it was disrespectful to play Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson one-on-one. Coleman and Wilson combined for 10 catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Despite this, Dabo Swinney believed Clemson had a chance to win.
“Again, I think he’s an amazing player with a lot of heart, and we’re trying to win, and I thought second half, I thought we were in a position to win the whole game, but they made one more play than we did, but that had nothing to do with him.” He’s the best there is in the country.”
Even with Dabo Swinney’s reaction, it’s difficult to deny that Clemson’s defensive system influenced Jordan Travis and Florida State’s offense. Travis expressed displeasure with himself for not being better in the game and taking advantage of the chance when he believed Clemson was rude.
“I feel like we were disrespected all day,” Travis stated. “When you go one-on-one with Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman, I get the impression you don’t respect either the receivers or the quarterback.” I missed a bunch of throws against one-on-ones early on, and I wish I could go back and finish them, but gosh, we stepped up when we needed to.”
Jordan Travis connected with Keon Coleman for a touchdown in overtime, which proved to be the game-winning score. On the play, Coleman was in single coverage.
