College Football Coach Buddy Teevens Passes Away at Age 66
Today, the college football community is mourning the loss of Buddy Teevens, a highly respected coach who has passed away at the age of 66. This unfortunate event follows an accident in March when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.
The Dartmouth football program, where Teevens had a long and successful coaching career, announced his passing on Tuesday evening. This news has left the sports world in shock, as Teevens was not only a great coach but also a beloved figure.
The Teevens family expressed their feelings in a statement:
“Our family is heartbroken to inform you that our beloved ‘coach’ has peacefully passed away surrounded by family. Unfortunately, the injuries he sustained proved too challenging for even him to overcome. Throughout this journey, we consistently relayed the thoughts, memories, and love sent his way. Your kindness and letters of encouragement did not go unnoticed and were greatly appreciated by both Buddy and our family. We are confident and take comfort in the fact that he passed away knowing how much he was loved and admired.”
Buddy Teevens, who once played as a quarterback for Dartmouth, became the head coach of the program in 2005, leaving a lasting legacy. He also led Dartmouth’s football program from 1987 to 1991, marking another significant period in his career.
During his successful career, Buddy Teevens achieved a remarkable record of 117 wins, 101 losses, and 2 ties with the Big Green, securing an impressive five Ivy League titles. Additionally, Teevens served as head coach at three other universities: Maine (1985-86), Tulane (1992-96), and Stanford (2002-04). His contributions to the Ivy League and college football as a whole were invaluable.
