College Basketball Star Mikey Williams Faces 28 Years in Prison for Gun Charges

Mikey Williams, a college basketball recruit at Memphis, is in serious legal trouble with six gun-related felony charges. If he’s found guilty of all these charges, he could spend up to 28 years behind bars.

A Superior Court judge, Sherry M. Thompson-Taylor, has decided that Williams must go to trial for these allegations. The charges include five counts of assault with a weapon and one count of firing into an occupied vehicle. These charges came about after a shooting incident at his San Diego County home on March 27, where a car with five people inside was shot at. Thankfully, no one got hurt.

There were no direct witnesses who saw Williams firing the gun, but the case has been moved forward based on statements from witnesses who claimed Williams had a gun and made threats to harm them.

The Deputy District Attorney, George Modlin, might add more charges based on the testimonies provided during the recent court session.

Williams, a well-known college basketball recruit ranked in the top 50, gained fame during his high school years with a substantial following on social media. At the young age of 17, he secured a multi-year shoe deal with Puma, which was terminated after his arrest.

Presently, Williams is taking online courses and is still listed as a member of the Memphis basketball team. However, he doesn’t have access to team facilities or activities. Memphis University has decided to wait until the legal process is complete before making a final decision on his status.

As the legal proceedings continue, Memphis is getting ready to start their regular season on November 6th with a game against Jackson State. The future of this college basketball recruit is uncertain, with significant consequences on the line.
